Is it permissible to perform ablution with water from jerrycans that smells of alcohol when water is unavailable?

If the smell of alcohol in a vessel is persistent, but alcohol was not originally placed in it, then the water is pure, and purification with it is valid. However, if alcohol was placed in it and its smell remained, and the vessel was not washed thoroughly, then ablution with water from it is not sufficient. But if the vessel was washed and it is difficult to remove the smell, then it becomes pure, and the persistence of the smell does not harm, and purification from the vessel is then sufficient.
