What is the ruling on a wife asking her expatriate husband to visit when the husband's circumstances do not allow him to travel, despite his fulfilling all his duties towards her?

A husband is not permitted to be absent from his wife for more than six months except with her permission, because she has the right to be chaste and protected by him. The husband should strive to have his wife reside with him where he lives. If he does not do so, then he should not be absent from her for more than the period specified by the Shari'ah without her consent. A wife has the right to seek a divorce if the husband is absent for more than six months without an excuse and does not return to her. Therefore, understanding between the spouses is necessary, taking into consideration their mutual benefit.
