When does travel constitute "travel"?

Some scholars are of the view that travel is restricted by distance (81-83 km), while others are of the view that it is restricted by custom, which is the opinion chosen by Sheikh Al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah. Defining the distance is more precise and clearer for people. When there is a discrepancy between distance and custom, the more cautious approach should be taken.
