What is the ruling regarding the Hajj of my mother, who performed the obligatory Hajj as a Mutamatti' and committed the following errors: not shortening her hair after the 'Umrah and after the Hajj, and her stoning of the jamarat on the first day before my arrival, and what is the ruling regarding the blood that flowed from her head during the stoning, and her shaking hands with my uncle and congratulating him on Eid after the stoning?

We hope your mother's Hajj is sound and accepted. It appears she performed Hajj as a Mutamatti' and delayed the taqseer (shortening of hair) after 'Umrah. Some scholars believe that her ihram for Hajj was not valid. However, the Malikis and Ibn 'Uthaymeen held that her ihram was valid and that she was a Mutamatti', but that she must offer a fidyah (sacrificing a sheep in Makkah and distributing it among the poor) for delaying the taqseer.

Her forgetting the taqseer during Hajj does not affect the validity of her Hajj. She must shorten her hair to exit her state of ihram. As for the prohibitions of ihram she committed due to ignorance, there is no penalty on her for them. However, it is more cautious to offer a fidyah for each prohibition that involved destruction (such as cutting hair and nails) by choosing between fasting for three days, or feeding six poor people, or sacrificing a sheep.

Her greeting her uncle and congratulating him on 'Eid is permissible. Shaking hands with non-mahram men is a mistake but does not affect the validity of Hajj. The blood that flowed when stoning the jamarah does not affect the validity of her Hajj.

Her stoning the jamarah at night after midnight is permissible, as is her departing from Muzdalifah to Mina if she stayed there after midnight. However, if she stoned the jamarah before midnight or departed from Muzdalifah before it, she must offer a dam (a sheep to be sacrificed in Makkah), or fast ten days if she is unable to offer the dam. Otherwise, there is no penalty on her.
