What is the ruling on a wife working when her home, children, and husband need her, and her father takes her salary and insists on her working, while her husband does not wish for her to work, and she has gone to her father’s house, and her father refuses to return her unless her husband agrees to her working, especially with children involved? And is the husband considered disobedient (nashiz) if he refuses her work after stipulating to her, before marriage, that she stop working if the house needed her? And what is the ruling on a mufti who did not hear from both parties?

A woman's primary role is to care for her home, raise her children, and obey her husband. This role takes precedence over other activities, provided the husband consents. If the husband orders his wife to stay at home, she must obey him, as there is a prophetic command to that effect. A woman leaving the house without her husband's permission is considered an act of defiance (nushooz), and her conjugal rights are forfeited. The husband has more authority over his wife than her father, and her obedience to him is more obligatory than her obedience to her father. As for conditions stipulated by the father, such as divorce or work, if they were part of the original marriage contract, the husband is obligated to fulfill them. Otherwise, he is not bound by them and has the right to prevent his wife from working.
