If the wife did not stipulate living with her family or working before the marriage contract, then she is disobedient (nashiz) for not residing where her husband resides and for working without his permission. The incitement of the wife's family for her not to return to her husband is considered a great evil if they do not have a legitimate religious excuse. The husband is advised to be patient and strive for reconciliation, seeking help from Allah and supplicating Him. Allah Almighty says: "And when My servants ask you, [O Muhammad], concerning Me - indeed I am near. I respond to the invocation of the supplicant when he calls upon Me. So let them respond to Me [by obedience] and believe in Me that they may be [rightly] guided." (Al-Baqarah:186). Then, he should seek help from the wise members of the family, and not resort to divorce unless its benefit outweighs its harm.
