What is the origin of the Hadith: "The remembrance of Allah in the side of Satan is like a bite in the side of..." and what does it mean?

This narration has not been found attributed to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, in the relied-upon hadith books. Rather, it has been attributed to Ka'b al-Ahbar, as mentioned by Abu Nu'aym, al-Safiri, and others. It is mentioned in Nuzhat al-Majalis that "There is no god but Allah" is to Iblis like the canker is to the son of Adam. So, the narration has no attributed origin (marfu'), but rather it is a saying of Ka'b al-Ahbar, and it is a simile comparing the effect of dhikr on Satan to the effect of the canker disease on humans.
