What is the way to get rid of a sin that keeps recurring, despite repeated repentance and diligence in acts of worship?

The questioner's regret and sorrow over repeating the sin are signs of the sincerity of his faith and the life of his heart. He should not despair of Allah's mercy and should repeat repentance no matter how many times the sin is repeated, until Allah blesses him with a sincere repentance after which he does not return to the sin.
