What is the ruling on a woman who fasted on the Day of Arafah and deliberately masturbated on that day? Does she have to re-observe the fast, and is her fast void? Masturbation is forbidden, and it is even more reprehensible while fasting, as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "When any of you is fasting, he should not indulge in obscene talk nor raise his voice." It does not invalidate the fast unless ejaculation occurs. If ejaculation occurs, the fast is invalidated.

If the fast was obligatory, then it must be made up. If it was a voluntary fast, the majority of scholars hold that it is recommended to make it up, while the Hanafis and Malikis believe that making it up is obligatory, and this is the more cautious approach. Allah Almighty knows best.
