You should advise those who curse by explaining the حرمة (prohibition) of their action. If they do not stop, seek help from neighbors or the police who can deter them. It is permissible for you to respond to cursing in kind, without transgression. So, do not curse anyone other than the one who cursed you. And if he curses you by saying, "O son of so-and-so," do not curse his father, but rather say, "O wicked one, O unjust one." Patience and forgiveness are good, but they are legislated when they involve a benefit. Otherwise, you must punish them in a way that deters them.
