Is it permissible for someone suffering from intrusive thoughts (waswasi) to adopt the easier opinion when scholars differ, such as not making up missed prayers if the error was in the number of days of menstruation?

Scholars have differed regarding making up missed prayers due to ignorance or misinterpretation. The majority opinion is that making them up is obligatory, based on the hadith (definition): "Allah's debt is more worthy of being fulfilled." However, Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah held that making them up is not necessary. Making them up is more cautious, and prayer is an act of closeness [to Allah] and obedience, not a burden. One must turn away from whisperings (waswas) and not pay attention to them. Making up prayers is only obligatory when there is certainty that the prayer was missed.
