What is the ruling on hastening the Hajj and departing from Mina before sunset, then returning and performing the stoning (rami) after sunset? Is it a condition for one who is hastening to perform the stoning before sunset on the second day, or is it sufficient to depart before sunset? What are the consequences of making a mistake in this?

The pilgrim is not considered to have hastened unless he departs from Mina after casting the pebbles and before sunset on the twelfth day of the days of Tashreeq. As for merely leaving Mina before sunset without casting, then returning to cast, this is not considered hastening. Hastening means descending from Mina after staying two nights and casting the pebbles on the eleventh and twelfth days, and there is no sin upon him who does so. And he who delays and stays the thirteenth night and casts its pebbles, there is no sin upon him; rather, his action is better. If sunset overtakes him while he is in Mina and he has not departed, he must stay there for the thirteenth night and cast on the thirteenth day after Dhuhr. It is necessary to correct the misunderstanding that hastening occurs on the eleventh day; rather, hastening occurs on the twelfth day of the days of Tashreeq.
