What is the ruling on "pledge" messages that include strange stories and specific deadlines (such as: "There is no god but Allah, send it to fifteen people, and on the day you send it you will hear good news, and if you do not send it your life will turn upside down"), and will the one who ignores them be held accountable?

The prevalent characteristic of such messages is that they are based on baseless superstitions, and a Muslim should not pay attention to them. Some people's claim that whoever writes them will attain good fortune and whoever does not write them will suffer misfortune is a false guess and a hateful claim. The Almighty's saying applies to them: "Has he access to the unseen, or has he taken a covenant with the Most Merciful?" Therefore, it is advised not to pay attention to these messages, and whoever propagates them should fear Allah and not spread such superstitions or fabricate lies against Allah, for He, the Almighty, said: "And do not say about what your tongues falsely describe, 'This is lawful and this is unlawful,' to invent a lie against Allah. Indeed, those who invent a lie against Allah will not succeed. [Enjoy] a brief pleasure, and [then] for them is a painful punishment."
