What is the meaning of "praising the Prophet in the Most Exalted Assembly," and is not sending blessings upon the Prophet a supplication for mercy?

The salutation (Salah) of Allah upon the Prophet means His mercy and His pleasure. From the angels, it is supplication and seeking forgiveness. From the Ummah (community), it is supplication and veneration. Some scholars are of the opinion that the linguistic origin of "Salah" is glorification. Thus, Allah's Salah upon the Prophet is His praise of him before His angels, and the Salah of angels and humans is their asking Allah to do that for him. It was also said that Salah from Allah is His forgiveness. Al-Khattabi said: The Salah that signifies glorification and honor is not said for anyone other than the Prophet, peace be upon him, while the Salah that means supplication can be said for others.
