Could you please explain the meaning of the Hadith: "The worst of people in thievery"?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

The Hadith: "The worst of thieves is he who steals from his prayer: he does not complete its bowing (ruku'), nor its prostration (sujud), nor its humility (khushu')." This is an authentic Hadith.

The Hadith indicates that there are two types of theft: the commonly known type and the less commonly known type. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, drew attention to the second type and stated that it is worse than the first. The meaning of the Hadith is that a worshipper might neglect the bowing and prostration or not have humility in his prayer, thereby betraying the trust of prayer and stealing from his own right, such that his limbs are not affected by the prayer.
