What is the ruling on insulting and belittling females, based on the understanding that verses such as: (Wealth and children are the adornment of the worldly life), and (And made for you from your wives sons and grandchildren), and (And provided you with livestock and sons) specify only sons as adornment, in addition to the hadiths that mention women are the majority of the inhabitants of Hellfire? And does the saying of Allah the Almighty: (And We have certainly honored the children of Adam) include females?

Degrading females and diminishing their status is not from Islam. The Qur'an described sons as an adornment, in the context of reporting the reality of people and their love for numerous offspring, not as a command. Islam came with mercy towards daughters and enjoined good treatment of them, encouraging it and promising great reward for it. The Prophet, peace be upon him, was loving and merciful towards his daughter Fatimah. Degrading daughters is from the manners of the pre-Islamic era (Jahiliyyah), and Islam commanded justice between children, both males and females. The hadith that women are the majority of the inhabitants of Hell does not mean they are hated; rather, it is an encouragement for them to do good deeds. Allah's honoring of the children of Adam includes both men and women, for women are the twin halves of men, and the criterion for honor in Islam is piety, not masculinity.
