The question

What is the ruling on taking a "Salam" loan from an Islamic bank, whereby the bank buys a commodity (semolina) from the borrower at a specific price and a fixed interest amount, provided that the borrower repays the amount plus the interest after three months, with the commodity remaining in the possession of the borrower to sell and dispose of its price? Is it permissible to take this loan for building a family home or for purchasing trucks, production machinery, or utility and passenger vehicles?

The answer

If the bank first purchases the goods at the client's request and then sells them to him with a known profit, without increasing the price in case of delayed payment, then this sale (murabaha to a person who promises to buy) is permissible. However, if the bank hands over a sum of money to the client with interest in exchange for the duration, then this is a usurious loan which is prohibited and must be stopped.
