How can we honor our father who does not acknowledge his mistakes, refuses dialogue, doubts our intellect, does not defend us against the family’s injustice, does not solve problems but rather complicates them, in addition to the difficulty of discussing matters with him and his neglect of his personal rights?

The father's right over his child is immense and is not forfeited by negligence or abuse. It is obligatory to accompany him with kindness, even if he is a polytheist. It is permissible to advise him, enjoin good upon him, and forbid evil from him gently and respectfully, without harshness or abuse, because he is not like a stranger. Filial piety is a vast door of showing kindness to parents, delivering good to them, and warding off evil from them to the best of one's ability. One must strive to be dutiful to the father and show kindness to him with patience and seeking Allah's pleasure, for in it lies Allah's contentment and entry into Paradise. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The Lord's pleasure is in the father's pleasure, and the Lord's displeasure is in the father's displeasure," and "The father is the middle gate of Paradise."
