Is envy (Hasad) present in Islam or not?

Envy is wishing for the disappearance of a blessing from someone who is envied. Allah has commanded us to seek refuge from the evil of the envier when he envies.

Envy has degrees: 1. Wishing for the disappearance of a blessing from others, even if it does not transfer to oneself. 2. Wishing for the disappearance of a blessing from others because the envier desires it, hoping it will transfer to them. 3. The envier wishing for a similar blessing for himself without wishing for its disappearance from others; this is called ghibtah (benign envy) and is permissible.

The envier harms himself in three ways: 1. Gaining sins, as envy is forbidden. 2. Showing disrespect towards Allah, as envy is a dislike of Allah's bestowal of blessings and an objection to His action. 3. Heartache, excessive worry, and sorrow.
