Who is Imam al-Ghazali?

Al-Ghazali is Muhammad ibn Muhammad Al-Tusi. Al-Ghazali passed through four stages: philosophy, then kalam (scholastic theology), then Batinism, and finally Sufism. Scholars have agreed upon his intelligence and genius, but he had a leaning towards philosophy mixed with Sufism. Muslim scholars responded to him, among them his student Abu Bakr ibn Al-Arabi, and Ibn Taymiyyah, who said that Al-Ghazali had little knowledge of Hadith and could not distinguish between its sound and infirm narrations. It was mentioned that Al-Ghazali, in the latter part of his life, returned to the creed of Ahl Al-Sunnah wal Jama'ah (the People of the Sunnah and the Community), condemned kalam, and advised the Ummah (Muslim nation) to return to the Qur'an and the Sunnah. This is what his book Iljam Al-Awam an Ilm Al-Kalam (Curbing the Common Folk from Scholastic Theology) affirmed.
