Is the reward for the one striving on behalf of the widow and the orphan counted for each of them individually, or for both of them together? And is establishing a project for orphans from private funds considered a permanent sponsorship for them and their mother? And is it a condition that they be in dire need of money for the same reward to be counted?

Voluntary charity to the rich is permissible, and the one who gives it will be rewarded. So, whoever gives charity to a woman who has no husband and to orphans will be rewarded for this charity and will receive recompense for it, even if they are wealthy. Charity to orphans is encouraged. Allah Almighty says: "Say, 'Whatever you spend of good is [to be] for parents and relatives and orphans and the needy and the traveler. And whatever you do of good - indeed, Allah is Knowing of it.'"

The one who strives for the widow and the poor is like the one who strives in the way of Allah or the one who prays at night and fasts during the day. The term "widow" refers to a poor woman who has no husband. Striving for her means spending on her and taking care of her affairs. Sponsoring an orphan includes spending on them, raising them, educating them, looking after their interests, and safeguarding their wealth. It is hoped that whoever spends on an orphan – even if wealthy – will attain the reward of sponsoring them, and spending on them preserves the orphan's wealth.
