Are there narrations concerning the giving of zakat from agricultural products or crops for which the passing of a year (hawlan al-hawl) is not a condition?
The categories of crops on which zakat is obligatory are: wheat, barley, dates, and raisins. The more preponderant opinion is that it is obligatory on all crops and fruits that can be measured by volume and stored. The nisab (minimum threshold) for crops and fruits is five awsuq, which is approximately 612 kg, based on the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "There is no sadaqa (zakat) on less than five awsuq." The amount that must be given is one-tenth (10%) if irrigated without cost (rain or rivers), and half of one-tenth (5%) if irrigated with cost, based on the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "On what is irrigated by the sky and springs, or what is 'athari (irrigated by natural rainfall), one-tenth is due; and on what is irrigated by beasts of burden (or by effort), half of one-tenth is due." The time zakat becomes obligatory is at the beginning of ripening, and the time for its disbursement is after purification and cleaning for grains, and after drying for fruits.
