Is a Hajj or Umrah prize permissible or forbidden, and is it permissible to perform Hajj or Umrah while in debt?

If the competition is one for which it is permissible to receive a prize, such as competitions that aid in jihad or religious competitions, then there is no objection to performing Hajj or Umrah with the prize money. However, if the competition is one for which it is not permissible to receive a prize, then it is gambling, and it is not permissible to accept its prize.

As for a person in debt performing Hajj: if the debt is deferred, then Hajj is permissible without the creditor's permission, as long as the debtor hopes to repay it. If the debt is due immediately, then it is not permissible except with the creditor's permission. It is permissible for a debtor whose debt is immediately due to perform Hajj at someone else's expense, without the creditor's permission.
