It is possible to combine work and the pursuit of knowledge. A Muslim needs to work to earn his livelihood and the livelihood of those dependent on him, and to seek knowledge to know his Lord, and what is lawful and unlawful. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "For one of you to take his rope and gather firewood on his back is better for him than to come to a man and ask him, whether he gives him or withholds from him."

We advise seeking lawful employment while striving in the pursuit of knowledge. The matter requires perseverance, patience, sincerity of intention, good purpose, and reliance on Allah Almighty. Regarding suitable employment for this, those with experience and specialization should be consulted, and those with sound judgment and wisdom should be sought for advice.
