Will the husband be punished for the delay in settling his debts, and does seeing him in a dream indicate his condition?

The heirs must hasten to pay the debts of their deceased from his estate. If he did not leave any wealth, then it is recommended for his family to pay his debt on his behalf. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, would not pray over a deceased person who had a debt unless his debt was paid, due to his saying, peace and blessings be upon him: "The soul of a believer is tied to his debt until it is paid off." If the debtor died with the intention of fulfilling his debt, it is hoped that Allah will take care of paying his debt on his behalf. As for the acquittal of the deceased's liability when a living person assumes his debt, there is a difference of opinion on this matter. The preferred approach is to pay the debt to clear the deceased's name. Al-Shawkani was of the opinion that the deceased's acquittal occurs through actual payment, not merely by assuming the debt.
