Is a wife's refusal to accompany her husband to family visits or public places, even if they are unsuitable for her, considered an act of disobedience to him?

It is not permissible to obey the husband in matters involving forbidden acts, such as intermingling (free mixing of sexes) or going to places where 'awrat (parts of the body that must be covered) are exposed; this is based on the Prophet's saying, "There is no obedience to a creature in disobedience to Allah." If you abstain, you will be rewarded for abandoning the forbidden. However, if the places do not involve forbidden acts, it is not permissible to disobey his command. It is preferable to advise the husband with wisdom and good counsel.
