A wife's obedience to her husband is obligatory in what is permissible, as long as it does not contradict Islamic law, harm her, or pertain to marital matters. A wife accompanying her husband to visit his family, if it does not lead to any religiously forbidden acts, is not among the obligatory acts of obedience. Rather, it is an act of good companionship, kindness to the husband, and honoring his family. However, if it leads to a reprehensible act, such as impermissible mixing [of genders], then it becomes forbidden, for there is no obedience to a creature in disobedience to the Creator.
