What is the ruling on a company that promotes products of other companies by offering discounts in the form of coupons redeemable for products, and obtains a percentage from the sale of these coupons, with a validity period for the coupon after which the buyer loses his right to it, and is it permissible to continue working for the company after one of its branches offered discounts on alcoholic beverages?
The scenario mentioned pertains to the issue of tripartite discount cards, which is a matter of disagreement among contemporary scholars. The Permanent Committee for Scholarly Research and Ifta, as well as senior scholars (such as Sheikh Ibn Baz, Al-Uthaymeen, and Al-Jibreen), have issued fatwas against their permissibility. This is also the view preferred by Dr. Khalid Al-Muslih, and it is the we adhere to. Furthermore, the Islamic Fiqh Academy issued a resolution stating the impermissibility of issuing or purchasing these cards. Regarding the questioner and his work in advertising, if we assume its permissibility, he has fulfilled his duty of advising and enjoining against evil, and there is no harm in his work as long as he did not participate in advertising alcoholic beverages and denounced it.
