How is an inheritance divided between a wife and a full sister?

The full sister receives one-half as a prescribed share (fard), based on the Almighty's saying: "If a man dies, leaving no child but a sister, she will have half of what he leaves."

The sister then takes the remainder by way of return (radd). The inheritance is thus divided into four shares: the wife receives one share as her prescribed share (one-fourth), and the full sister receives three shares, combining her prescribed share and the return.

We emphasize that inheritance matters are serious and complex, and a mere fatwa is insufficient. Rather, the matter must be referred to the Sharia courts for investigation, as there might be other heirs, wills, debts, or other rights that take precedence over the heirs' rights. Therefore, the inheritance should not be divided without consulting the Sharia courts, if they exist.
