Is one excused for not hastening to repent due to ignorance of some of its rulings, knowing that they performed good deeds but their repentance was delayed?

"There is disagreement regarding the reward for the ignorant person who performs righteous deeds that are in accordance with Islamic law. As for the penitent, he must hasten to repent, abandon the sin, and firmly resolve not to return to it. An ignorant person is excused for deeming permissible that which is subtly forbidden, but not for that which is widely known to be forbidden, such as drinking alcohol. Whoever believes something to be permissible which is unanimously agreed upon as forbidden, has committed an act of disbelief (kufr) once the ambiguity is removed from him. However, if it is based on interpretation (ta'wil), then he does not disbelieve, as was the case with some Companions who deemed alcohol permissible based on their interpretation. Delaying repentance is a sin, and one must repent for this delay as well. One who postpones repentance is in danger, for he may not live long enough to repent, and abandoning a sin before becoming accustomed to it is easier."
