What is the ruling on buying a specific quantity of a certain commodity and paying for it via the bank, then sending it to another location to be sold for an agreed-upon price, and having the money sent to me via the bank without personally receiving the goods?
There is no harm in this transaction. The agent's receipt of the sold item is sufficient, as his possession is considered possession by the principal. This sale does not contradict the opinion of the majority of scholars who prohibit selling an item before taking possession of it. Possession for each item is determined by its nature. The definition of possession is referred back to custom. The Hanafis are of the view that for movable goods, takhliyah (making the item available) is what is considered.
