Does a good deed erase a bad deed?

A good deed erases a bad deed, as Allah Almighty says: "Indeed, good deeds do away with evil deeds," and as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Follow up a bad deed with a good deed, it will erase it." As for a bad deed, it does not erase a good deed, except in certain cases such as dying upon shirk (definition) (polytheism), as Allah Almighty says: "If you associate others with Allah, then your work will surely become worthless," and abandoning the Asr prayer, as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Whoever abandons the Asr prayer, his work has been nullified."
