Is it permissible for a worshiper in the Shafi'i school of thought to recite a supplication other than the one mentioned in the Qunut of Fajr prayer, such as supplicating for the destruction of the enemies of religion or the salvation of the oppressed, or is it obligatory to adhere to the reported supplication, "O Allah, guide me among those whom You have guided..."?

Scholars have differed regarding the specific supplication for Qunut in the Fajr prayer, falling into two opinions: One is that no specific supplication is designated, but rather any supplication is permissible, and this is the more correct view. The second is that it must be the well-known supplication: "Allahumma ihdini fiman hadait" (O Allah, guide me among those whom You have guided). As for Qunut an-Nawazil (Qunut for calamities), it is legislated in the five daily prayers, and one supplicates therein with what is appropriate for the situation, and it is not restricted to a specific supplication.
