Is it permissible to give Zakat in the form of gifts to needy relatives, including the wife's parents? And is it permissible to carry out renovation work on the parents' house if the father is wealthy but refuses, and the mother lives in difficult circumstances?

Zakat is disbursed to eight categories as specified by Allah Almighty in the Quran. It is permissible to give Zakat to relatives if they fall into one of these categories and their maintenance is not obligatory upon the Zakat payer. There is no need to inform them that it is Zakat. However, Zakat cannot be used for renovating the parents' house. Providing the necessities of life for the mother is the responsibility of her children.
