A husband's statement to his wife, "You are divorced," is an explicit pronouncement by which divorce takes effect, even if the husband did not intend it, unless anger deprived him of his senses and made him unaware of what he was saying. In that case, his divorce does not take effect. Divorce during a period of purity (tuhr) in which intercourse occurred is an innovative (bid'i) and forbidden divorce, but it is effective according to most scholars. Such matters should be presented to the Sharia court or to reputable scholars.
