Is it permissible for a reciter to accept a reward for leading prayers in the mosque, knowing that he did not stipulate it, and the amount is given by the mosque community and not from the public treasury, and he spends it in the pursuit of knowledge?

There is no blame upon the questioner for taking this money, because it is not a wage or a stipulated payment, but rather a generous gesture and assistance. Its permissibility is further confirmed if he is in need of it for seeking knowledge or for his livelihood. Scholars have agreed on the permissibility of the Imam taking money without a condition, as a gift or provision, as mentioned by Ibn Nujaym, Ibn Qudamah, and Al-Buhuti.
