What is the ruling on untying the knots and uncovering the face of the deceased in the grave?

It is recommended to untie the knots from the deceased after burial because they were tied for fear of the shroud spreading. So, when the deceased is placed in the grave, the knots should be untied. It was narrated that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, removed the pins with his mouth when Nu'aym ibn Mas'ud was placed in the grave. And a similar narration is reported from Ibn Mas'ud and Samurah ibn Jundub.

Ibn Qudamah said in "Al-Mughni": "As for untying the knots from his head and feet, it is recommended."

Sheikh Ibn Uthaymeen said: "Untying the knots of the shrouds – there is an narration regarding it from Abdullah ibn Mas'ud, may Allah be pleased with him, who said: 'When you place the deceased in the grave, untie the knots.'"

As for uncovering the entire face of the deceased, there is no basis for it.
