What is the ruling on what is called "releasing the deceased's loneliness" after their burial?

If the questioner's intent is to untie the knots with which the shroud is bound after burying the deceased, then there is no harm in untying them. Indeed, it is considered desirable by some scholars, and Hanbali jurists have deemed it recommended. They based their reasoning on what Al-Athram narrated from Ibn Mas'ud, who said: "When you place the deceased in the lahd (niche in the grave), untie the knots."
