The answer

A Muslim should hasten to perform Hajj when capable, and the existence of a problem between the spouses is not an excuse to delay Hajj; for Hajj might be a reason for resolving the problem and a facilitation from Allah. The husband is advised not to rush into divorce, but to try to reconcile differences. However, if the wife is negligent in her duty to Allah and persists in it, then there is no good in keeping her. But if the problem is among the usual marital disagreements, he should be patient and maintain good companionship, for Allah may place much good in it, and he might be blessed with righteous offspring through her. The husband should remember the saying of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him: "A believing man should not hate a believing woman; if he dislikes one of her characteristics, he will be pleased with another." He should also frequently supplicate for his wife's righteousness.
