Can my supplications and charity on behalf of my mother change her destiny from Hellfire to Paradise, and decrease her sins and increase her good deeds after her death?
The supplication of children and their seeking forgiveness for their deceased mother, and the good deeds dedicated to her, such as charity or Hajj, expiate her sins, increase her good deeds, and elevate her status. Sheikh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah mentioned that among the causes of expiation for the deceased are the supplications of believers for them and the righteous deeds performed after death and dedicated to them, citing the hadith: "When a person dies, all his deeds come to an end except for three: ongoing charity, beneficial knowledge, or a righteous child who prays for him." Thus, children are considered part of their parents' earnings, and their supplications are counted as part of their parents' deeds.
