What is the value of the expiation of feeding sixty poor people, and what should I do if I am unable to fulfill it?

Deliberate sexual intercourse during the daytime in Ramadan is one of the major sins. The perpetrator must offer sincere repentance, resolve not to repeat it, and feel remorse. A compensatory expiation (kaffarah) is obligatory, in the following order: freeing a believing slave; if unable, then fasting for two consecutive months; if unable, then feeding sixty needy persons. This expiation is incumbent upon the husband. Scholars hold two differing opinions regarding its obligation upon the wife.
