What do you do when you discover that your husband smokes and uses what you believe to be hashish, despite his claim before marriage that he abstained from such things, and knowing that he has become addicted to it, yet his treatment of you is good, he does not smoke in front of you, and he has started to pray and is keen on performing prayers on time after he did not pray before marriage?

If the husband does not pray, then his commission of evils such as smoking and hashish is not surprising. However, he should not be accused based on mere suspicion, as the original principle is his innocence until proven guilty.

If he repents from abandoning prayer and becomes regular in observing it, it is hoped that he will abandon those evils, in fulfillment of Allah Almighty's saying: "Indeed, prayer prohibits immorality and wrongdoing."

If, in addition to that, his conduct becomes good, then patience with him and frequent supplication for him are necessary, for supplication is answered by Allah Almighty.

It is important to pay attention to the significance of choosing a competent husband who possesses religious commitment and good character.
