Is there any evidence from the Qur’an and Sunnah that the presence of a trustworthy woman prevents unlawful seclusion (khalwa), as opposed to the clear evidence for the presence of two men?
Prohibited seclusion (khalwa) is when a man and a non-mahram woman are alone together, based on the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "No man should seclude himself with a woman unless she has a mahram with her." If a woman's or a man's mahram is present with them, or if trustworthy women are present, then it is permissible and not considered prohibited seclusion, as long as there is no other impediment that raises suspicion or from which temptation is feared. However, the presence of a young child who cannot discern is as if he is not there. The presence of men with a non-mahram woman constitutes prohibited seclusion, unlike the gathering of a man with non-mahram women.
