ما الذنب الذي يستوجب طعام الأثيم المذكور في سورة الدخان؟

The food of the impious is the tree of Zaqqum, as stated in the Holy Quran in Surat Ad-Dukhan: "Indeed, the tree of Zaqqum is the food of the impious." "Al-Atheem" (the impious) refers to one who commits many sins, and here it means the disbeliever, as interpreted by Ibn Jarir, Al-Baydawi, and Ibn Ashour. The Zaqqum and those threatened with it are mentioned in other surahs, such as Al-Waqi'ah: "Then indeed, you, O those astray [who are] deniers will surely eat from trees of Zaqqum and fill with it your bellies," and As-Saffat: "Is that better as a lodging or the tree of Zaqqum? Indeed, We have made it a torment for the wrongdoers. Indeed, it is a tree issuing from the bottom of Hellfire, its emerging fruits are as if they are heads of devils. And indeed, they will eat from it and fill with it their bellies."
