Is it obligatory to offer two sacrificial animals for a man and his wife if they perform Hajj al-Tamattu‘ together, or is one sufficient for both of them?
If a man performs Hajj with his wife as a mutamatti (one who performs Umrah then Hajj), a sacrificial offering (hady) is obligatory for each of them, and one hady is not sufficient for both. This is based on the Almighty's saying: "So whoever performs Umrah [during the Hajj months] then performs Hajj [thereafter] - what can be easily obtained of sacrificial animals [is obligatory]." (Quran 2:196). And whoever cannot afford the hady must fast three days during Hajj and seven when he returns, based on the Almighty's saying: "But whoever cannot find [or afford such an animal] - then a fast of three days during Hajj and seven when you have returned. That is ten [days] complete. This is for those whose family is not in the area of Al-Masjid Al-Haram." (Quran 2:196).
