Is it permissible for one praying alone to supplicate during prostration in prayer?
Prostration (sujud) is a position for supplication, as the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "As for prostration, strive in supplication therein, for it is most likely that you will be answered." There is no difference in this regard between one praying alone and one praying in congregation. Supplication for matters of the afterlife is permissible by consensus. However, regarding supplication for worldly matters, the Hanafis and Hanbalis do not permit it, while the majority of scholars do.
