Is it permissible to refer to the texts of the Gospel and the Torah as "Ayat" (verses)?

It is permissible to use the word "ayat" (verses/signs) for the divisions of the original Torah and Gospel that Allah Almighty revealed before their distortion, because the Holy Quran referred to the divisions of the Torah and Gospel as "ayat."

However, if the context is speaking about the distorted Torah or Gospel, or about their polytheistic and false accounts, then it is not permissible to apply the description "ayat" to these divisions. This is because doing so would imply authenticity and equate the Holy Quran with the distorted scriptures, and because scholars have not applied this description to the distorted texts.
