Why did the wording differ between the Almighty's saying: (Drive them out of your town; they are a people who purify themselves) and His saying: (Drive Lot’s family out of your town; they are a people who purify themselves)?

The repetition of stories in the Quran is one of the characteristics of eloquence and rhetoric. The variations in wording and the increase or decrease in meanings within the repetition of the same story are attributed to several reasons. One reason is that what is intended are the meanings themselves, not the exact wordings. Allah narrated the stories in different languages from their original tongue, and the wordings varied while the meaning remained consistent. Another reason is that meanings are dispersed in their presentation and mentioned in different places for numerous benefits, and the variation in styles is to prevent boredom.

Regarding the difference in the response of Lot's people in Surah Al-A'raf and Surah An-Naml (expel them / expel Lot's family), it was said that Surah An-Naml was revealed first, explicitly mentioning "Lot's family," while Surah Al-A'raf was revealed later, sufficing with the pronoun (them) due to prior knowledge of them. It was also said that Surah An-Naml increased in reproof for Lot's people, so it was fitting to add to the structure by explicitly stating "Lot's family" to expel all his household, which conveys a broader and clearer meaning.
