How can one deal with an envious friend toward whom envy is felt in everything, and how can one be wary of her?
It is recommended to adhere to acts of obedience and to consistently recite supplications for protection, and to ask Allah for well-being morning and evening by reciting Surah Al-Ikhlas and the two Mu'awwidhat (Surahs Al-Falaq and An-Nas) three times, and saying: "In the Name of Allah, with Whose Name nothing on earth or in the heaven can cause harm, and He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing" three times, and "O Allah, I ask You for forgiveness and well-being in this world and the Hereafter...", and to frequently say: "Allah is sufficient for us, and [He is] the best Disposer of affairs." When fearing harm, one should say: "O Allah, we place You against their throats, and we seek refuge in You from their evils," and "O Allah, suffice me against them however You wish." It is also good to conceal news from the envious, for "Seek help in achieving your needs by concealment, for every person blessed with a bounty is envied." Similarly, it is recommended to conceal the good qualities of those one fears might be afflicted by the evil eye.
