How can one get rid of feelings of resentment, hatred, and envy towards a friend who acts hypocritically and receives undeserved privileges at work, and is there a way to advise him without provoking a negative reaction?
It is advisable not to think ill of a friend unless there is conclusive evidence, based on the Almighty's saying: "O you who have believed, avoid much [negative] assumption. Indeed, some assumption is sin," and the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "Beware of suspicion, for suspicion is the falsest of speech."
If backbiting is proven, the friend should be advised of its danger without revealing the source of the information. To remove malice and envy, which are serious illnesses, it is recommended to abandon injustice and aggression. It has been narrated: "Three things from which no one is safe: ill omens, suspicion, and envy." It was asked: "What is the way out of them, O Messenger of Allah?" He said: "If you feel an ill omen, do not turn back; if you suspect, do not verify; and if you envy, do not act unjustly."
One should not pursue any matter that brings harm to a friend, and should treat them kindly, as the Almighty says: "Repel [evil] with that which is better; then suddenly the one whom between you and him was enmity will become as though he was a devoted friend."
